Raymond Allen Liotta was born in the United States on December 18, 1954, in Newark, New Jersey. Alfred Liotta and Mary Liotta adopted him when he was six months old. Alfred was an auto-parts company owner, personnel director, and president of a local Democratic Party group, while Mary worked as a township secretary.
Ray Liotta graduated from Union High School in 1973 and went on to the University of Miami to study acting, earning a BFA in 1978. In 1983, he made his film debut in The Lonely Lady. Since then, he has starred in films such as Unlawful Entry (1992), Cop Land (1997), Hannibal (2001), Blow (2001), John Q (2002), Identity (2003), Observe and Report (2009), Killing Them Softly (2012), The Place Beyond the Pines (2012), and Marriage Story (2013). Ray Liotta also starred in the 2016–2018 drama series Shades of Blue. Following his work as Ray Sinclair in Something Wild, he received his first Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actor – Motion Picture (1986).
