Idris Elba announces plans to build film studio in Ghana

Idris Elba, a British actor, has declared his intention to develop a top-notch film studio in Ghana, his native country.

Idrissa Akuna Elba, a Hollywood celebrity of Ghanaian heritage, was his given name.

When he paid a courtesy call to President Nana Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House in Accra, the capital of Ghana, he proclaimed his preparedness to build the contemporary studio.

The Golden Globe winner also spoke about the necessity for a thorough strategy to advance Ghana into the forefront of the film industry.

Elba uploaded a remark made by Akufo-Addo on his Facebook page, which read as follows:

“As part of efforts to advance the “Beyond the Return” project, I welcomed English actor Idris Elba OBE to Jubilee House, the seat of the nation’s presidency, on Friday, February 3, 2023.

The moment has come to more constructively involve all people of African origin and people of African descent in areas like skills and knowledge development, trade and investment cooperation, and other such initiatives.

The ‘Taken’ actor contends that strong and thriving film industries start with sound public policy. He said that because they recognize the financial worth of the film business, nations like South Africa, Europe, Greece, and Morocco have made investments in their policies.

He said:

“The work has been done by the National Film Authority. Create a comprehensive strategy to advance Ghana. It must be strong. It must be fiercely competitive. We are certain—and I know you are confident in the legacy you wish to leave behind—that Ghana should take the initiative to begin luring those filmmakers.

“I have a movie I’m directing, and I’m trying to bring that movie, or at least some of that movie, to Ghana to shoot it. December will bring that movie to town. Pre-production gets underway in August. Some of the movies will arrive in Ghana by December in two or three weeks.
