Preston started her career as a child actress at RKO Pictures, playing Mrs. Blewett’s daughter in the 1934 picture Anne of Green Gables.

Preston then secured a deal with the studio and began acting in short films.

Preston also starred in the MGM picture Have a Heart in 1934, and by 1936, he had been promoted to RKO’s “featured child actor” and apparel model.

Preston also appeared in the 1938 film Our Gang Follies in a minor role.

Preston worked as a soprano vocalist in the United States and in recitals throughout Latin America and Europe as an adult.

Preston studied music at Seattle University, where she performed in Gilbert and Sullivan’s H.M.S. Pinafore in 1947 and was the soprano soloist in Giuseppe Verdi’s Requiem in 1949.

Preston also performed with symphonic orchestras in the United States, Europe, and Central and South America, as well as in the world’s most prominent opera houses.

Preston, a soprano with a five-octave range, was dubbed the “Golden Voice” by entertainment journalist Walter Winchell.

Preston died of dementia problems on May 11, 2022, in Montclair, New Jersey, at the age of 93.
