Fred Ward Obituary – Fred Ward was an actor and producer from the United States.

Ward had a long and varied career, beginning with a role in an Italian television film in 1973. He appeared in films such as;

  1. Escape from Alcatraz,
  2. Southern Comfort,
  3. The Right Stuff,
  4. Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins, Tremors and Tremors 2: Aftershocks, Henry & June,
  5. The Player,
  6. Swing Shift and
  7. Short Cuts.

Ward studied acting at the Herbert Berghof Studio in New York after serving in the United States Air Force.

Ward worked as a mime and dubbed Italian films while in Italy until he made his acting debut in two Roberto Rossellini films.

Ward returned to the United States in the early 1970s and worked in experimental theatre and on television.

Ward made his debut appearance in an American film as a cowboy in Hearts of the West (1975).

Ward’s first notable appearance was as fellow escapee John Anglin in Clint Eastwood’s film Escape from Alcatraz (1979).

Ward was born on December 30, 1942, in San Diego, and died on May 8, 2022, at the age of 79.

Ward was in the US Air Force for three years before becoming an actor.

Ward was also a fighter (broken his nose three times) and worked as a janitor, short-order cook, and logger in Alaska.
