EPL: Penalty Controversy Mars Man Utd’s 1-0 Win Over Wolves
Wolverhampton Wanderers have received an apology following a decision that omitted awarding them a penalty in their 1-0 loss to Manchester United.
This revelation came directly from their manager, Gary O’Neil.
In the final moments at Old Trafford, André Onana collided with Sasa Kalajdzic, yet the on-field referee, Simon Hooper, refrained from granting a penalty.
Upon scrutiny, VAR Michael Salisbury reviewed and subsequently cleared the incident, deeming it not a glaring and unmistakable error. However, O’Neil disclosed later that Jonathan Moss, the Manager of the PGMOL’s Select Group 1, acknowledged the error.
O’Neil shared, “Initially, I was informed live that they believed there was no evident and unequivocal error.”

“However, after conversing with Jonathan Moss, I must commend his straightforwardness; he expressed an apology and affirmed that it was an unmistakable penalty that should have been awarded.”
“Personally, I’m affected by this as he candidly admitted the misjudgment. I had the opportunity to spend the afternoon with him, delving into the new regulations while endeavoring not to contravene them, though I didn’t succeed.”
“It’s admirable that Jon acknowledged it as an apparent and evident lapse. He remains perplexed that neither the on-field referee nor VAR intervened. Oddly enough, this probably exacerbates my sentiments. When you’re aware you’re right, leaving empty-handed becomes more disheartening.”
