Emefiele visits Buhari in the wake of a Supreme Court decision on the new naira

(Emefiele visits Buhari) Hours after the landmark ruling by the Supreme Court in Nigeria, which prevented the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from executing the February 10 deadline for the validity of old naira notes, the governor of the CBN, Godwin Emefiele, paid a visit to President Muhammadu Buhari. This visit is believed to be in response to the ruling made by the Supreme Court, which was a unanimous decision by a seven-member panel led by Justice John Okoro.

The Supreme Court’s ruling came after an ex parte application was filed on Tuesday by the state governments of Kogi, Kaduna, and Zamfara. The court ruled that the old naira notes must remain in circulation, even after the new deadline had been set by the CBN. The Federal Government and the CBN were also instructed by the court not to continue with the deadline until the hearing, scheduled for February 15, has been determined.

At this time, the outcome of the meeting between the CBN governor and the President is yet to be known. However, Channels TV has reported that the visit is directly related to the Supreme Court ruling.
