Burt Young: Oscar-nominated Rocky Actor Dies Aged 83

Actor Burt Young, most famous for his portrayal of Paulie Pennino in the Rocky film series, has passed away at 83 years old.

Young earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor in 1977 for his performance as Rocky’s friend and prospective brother-in-law, a character played by Sylvester Stallone.

Born as Gerald Tommaso DeLouise in Queens, New York, Burt Young was an Italian-American who served in the US Marine Corps during the 1950s. He later pursued acting and established a career specializing in tough-guy roles on television and in films.

Variety’s Carmel Dagan remembered the actor as “incredibly prolific.” She noted that Young’s distinctive quality was his ability to bring depth and empathy to characters often considered as thugs, goons, or mugs in the roles he portrayed.

Young’s most iconic role was in the 1976 film “Rocky,” where he played a friend of Sylvester Stallone’s character. He continued to play the role of Paulie, who became Rocky’s brother-in-law when the fighter married his sister, in all six original Rocky films. However, he did not return for the 2015 spin-off film “Creed.”

“Rocky” was his most renowned work, achieving immense success in the cinema, receiving 10 Oscar nominations and three awards, including Best Picture.

In addition to his work in the Rocky series, Young appeared in other films such as “Once Upon a Time in America,” “Last Exit to Brooklyn,” and “Mickey Blue Eyes.” He also made appearances in various television series like “The Sopranos,” “Law & Order,” “The Rockford Files,” and “M*A*S*H.”

After his acting career, Burt Young gained recognition as a painter, exhibiting his artwork in galleries worldwide.

His manager confirmed his passing on Wednesday.

Mohbad’s management releases statement after his father alleged that a will that was thumbprinted by his late son exists.

It would be recalled that Mohbad’s father had alleged during a recent interview that a will thumbprinted by his late son is available following his death.

However, in a recent statement released by Mohbad’s management, they refuted the existence of any of such thumbprinted will.

They revealed that if such document were in existence, it would have been made public and duly registered with the Probate Registry.

They also gave an update on his autopsy results which they revealed would take some couple of months to arrive from abroad.

The statement read …

“It’s been a couple of months, but the life and death of Imole still remain fresh in our minds.

We know that nothing can bring Imole back, but we have cooperated with the authorities to make sure that all parties involved get the clarity and closure that we need to be able to remember Moh and live as he lived in his last few months: drawing strength from his past, but happy, strong and looking forward to the future.

We would like to use this opportunity to share a few updates and highlight certain truths, so that misconceptions and miscommunication do not persist:

1. The Police Authorities have conducted an investigation and have communicated that the autopsy results from samples sent abroad will take a couple of months before they are shared.

2. No members of Mohbad’s management or his Lawyer have communicated the existence of a will or any such thumb-printed document (as has recently been FALSELY reported) to any member of the family or the public. We would like to state with certainty that if any such document did exist, it would have been duly registered with the Probate Registry. We therefore plead with everyone to refrain from sharing false and misleading statements like this.

3. All accounts owned and controlled by Imole during his lifetime were immediately put on a Post No Debit order on the 12th of September, 2023. This order remains valid till date. These accounts will be properly handed over to the family upon resolution of the internal dispute.

Once again, we thank the you all for your continued support of Imole. We urge you, in your pursuit of justice

and closure, to seek, speak and promote only the truth.

Mohbad’s father continues to suspect foul play in his son’s demise as he recounts how he found out that his late son had a will which was thumb printed Instead of signed.

In an interview with TVC News he recounted how he found his son’s body already locally embalmed when he got to his place.

Amongst other things discussed by him, he revealed that when he got there, what he had seen was a lawyer rather than a doctor.

He added that he was shocked to discover that his 26-year-old son had a will, when he in his 60s doesn’t.

Mohbad’s father also added that this will had Mohbad’s thumb prints on it rather than his signature.

He wondered why he should use a thumb print when he has his signature.
