NASCAR driver of all time – Since its establishment in 1949, NASCAR has hosted a slew of superstars on its race tracks. In the beginning, drivers like Herb Thomas and Lee Petty dominated the sport.

Richard Petty is the greatest NASCAR driver of all time. He is the most successful driver in the sport’s history, as well as one of the most admired figures in all of motorsports.

Richard Lee Petty drove the No. 43 Plymouth/Pontiac for Petty Enterprises in the former NASCAR Grand National and Winston Cup Series, currently known as the NASCAR Cup Series, from 1958 to 1992.

He was the first driver to win the Cup Series championship seven times, a record now shared by Dale Earnhardt and Jimmie Johnson, and to win a career-high 200 races. This season included a record seven Daytona 500 victories and a total of 27 races, 10 of which were consecutive (1967).

During his 35-year career, Petty set a record with 123 poles and nearly 700 top 10 results in 1,184 races, including 513 consecutive starts from 1971 to 1989. In 2013, Matt Kenseth became the first driver to win in his 500th race start, joining Petty.

For the first time, he was inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2010.
