Rani Delaney, his second wife, was by his side when he suddenly passed away. Rani prefers to keep the majority of her private life hidden from the public, so there isn’t much information available about her.

Delaney worked as an apprentice engineer and fitter before completing his A-Levels at night school and starting his career as an English teacher.

Before his debut children’s book, The Spook’s Apprentice, about Tom Ward, the seventh son of a seventh son who learned to fight ghosts and creatures from the Dark, was released by Random House Children’s Books in 2004, he used to write in the early mornings before school.
