Is Blanche still alive?

Blanche Devereaux is a fictional character who appears in the sitcom The Golden Girls and its spin-off The Golden Palace.

Blanche DuBois (to whom Blanche Devereaux is compared in the pilot script) and Scarlett O’Hara were the inspirations for the character.

Rue McClanahan played Blanche for 8 years and 204 episodes over the two shows.

Rue McClanahan, who played Blanche Devereaux, is no longer living.

McClanahan was diagnosed with breast cancer in June 1997 and was successfully treated.

McClanahan was to be recognized for her lifetime achievements at an event called Golden: A Gala Tribute to Rue McClanahan on November 14, 2009, at the Castro Theatre in San Francisco, California.

Due to McClanahan’s hospitalization, the event was postponed.

On January 14, 2010, Entertainment Tonight revealed that the actress had suffered a small stroke while recovering from surgery.

McClanahan died of a cerebral hemorrhage on June 3, 2010, at the age of 76, at NewYork–Presbyterian Hospital.
