Christian Atsu of Ghana was “trapped” following the earthquake in Turkey.

Black Stars of Ghana winger Christian Atsu is reportedly stuck beneath the debris after two earthquakes struck Turkey back-to-back on Monday.

The 31-year-old, who represents Turkey’s Hatayspor, has reportedly vanished since the earthquake destroyed his home in Kahramanmaras, the city where the team is headquartered.

Alongside Taner Savut, the athletic director of Hatayspor, he has yet to be located.

A search and rescue crew has been sent to look for the two missing people.

Atsu scored the game-winning goal for Hatayspor against Kasimpasa in the Turkish League on Sunday.

After a brief stint with Al-Raed in Saudi Arabia, he joined the Turkish club in September of last year.

The Ghanaian played for Chelsea FC for four years before transferring to Newcastle United in 2017.

The European Mediterranean Seismological Centre estimates that one of the earthquakes that hit Turkey had a magnitude of at least 7.5.

The earthquake caused the total destruction of hundreds of structures, and tremors could be felt as far away as Cyprus, Lebanon, Israel, and Egypt.

Major earthquakes were reported in the impacted area hours later.

The largest earthquake to hit the country in a century, according to Turkish President Recep Erdogan, has resulted in the rescue of over 2,400 people from beneath the wreckage of destroyed houses.
