After finishing her shift at Adobe Systems on Charleston Road in Santa Clara County, California, Laurie was assassinated in 1992. A bystander found her body in her car about two miles distant.
In Colma, San Mateo County, California, Laurie A. Houts was laid to rest at the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, located at 1500 Mission Road.

An individual named John Woodward was tried in vain for Laurie’s murder in 1995 and 1996. Both times, the jury was deadlocked.
New evidence at the crime scene in 2022 led once more to the same individual thanks to sophisticated DNA processing. Both the Mountain View Police Department and the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office continued to pursue the allegations.
After returning from a business trip in Amsterdam, John Kevin Woodward, the president and CEO of Readytech, was detained at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York. He is being held in a New York jail as he waits to be extradited.
