Why is Johnny Depp suing his wife – Depp, 58, sued Heard, 35, for $50 million (£38 million) after losing the first round of the lawsuit, a libel trial in the United Kingdom, over an op-ed she wrote in The Washington Post claiming to be a victim of domestic abuse. Depp has been served with a $100 million countersuit by Heard.
The defamation action is expected to involve frightening domestic violence allegations. It will be broadcast live on the internet, and numerous high-profile witnesses, including James Franco, Paul Bettany, and Elon Musk, will testify.
On Tuesday, April 12th, the case began.
A total of 120 people have been identified as potential witnesses. Among the probable witnesses are Elon Musk, Ellen Barkin, Paul Bettany, and James Franco.
Tesla’s CEO is expected to testify on behalf of Heard. According to text messages heard aloud at the London libel trial, Musk, who allegedly dated Heard from 2016 to 2018, offered to provide “24/7 protection” to the Justice League and Aquaman actress to keep her safe from Depp.
Franco is also expected to speak on Heard’s behalf. She told Franco about bruises she received in an alleged altercation with Depp, according to the actress.
Depp is supported by Paul Bettany, who has described him as the “kindest, gentlest” man he knows. Bettany is almost probably going to be questioned about text messages he and his girlfriend exchanged in 2013.
