Charanjit Singh captained India’s gold-medal winning hockey team at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.
Charanjit Singh was born in Mairi, Himachal Pradesh, and was a part of the Indian hockey team that competed in the 1962 Asian Games and earned a silver medal.

Charanjit Singh, the legendary hockey player who captained India to gold in the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, died on January 27 at his home in Una, Himachal Pradesh. Singh was 90 years old when he died.
After a protracted illness, Charanjit Singh went into cardiac arrest.
Hockey India (HI) president Gyanendro Ningombam said, “It is a sad day for the hockey community.” “Even in his old age, he would light up whenever there was a discussion about hockey, and he could vividly recall every wonderful occasion of India’s golden hockey days.”
The hockey star leaves behind two boys and a daughter after suffering a stroke five years ago that left him largely paralyzed.
On Thursday evening, January 27, 2022, Charanjit Singh’s dying rituals were performed.
